Dear All!
The MULTIMEDIAL ARCHIVE OF PHILOSOPHY project is an undertaking unprecedented in Europe. It is unique because it involves the use of modern media carriers to record the statements and views of the authors of modern philosophical thought and to share it with the youth using all available means of distribution. The archive’s collection will be offered to everyone interested in this field of human activity. This way we wish to create a modern chronicle documenting the development of thoughts and ideas. The intellectual value of this archive will be increasing with the passing time, and it is easy to imagine its importance in 30 or 40 years. Philosophy is a field of human intellectual activity which is constantly changing and developing. It is this development that we wish to record. As part of our project, we produced a feature-length documentary about an outstanding Czech philosopher, phenomenologist Jan Patoczka. It was shown to public in Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and elsewhere. This way we are creating an independent network for distributing documentaries of this kind. With the help of the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Silesia, the Polish Phenomenological Association and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Warsaw, the archive also organized a symposium on the achievements of Jan Patoczka, with the participation of eminent philosophers who specialize in the analysis of his works. Materials from the symposium were published and issued as educational materials for pupils and students on DVD discs. A documentary on Patoczka titled “Heretyk” (“The Heretic”) was issued on DVD in Polish. English and German language versions are being prepared. The documentary on the philosophy of Jan Patoczka was the first film from the “Uczniowie Edmunda Husserla” (“The Followers of Edmund Husserl”) series; the next film, devoted to an outstanding follower of EdmundHusserl – Edyta Stein, was produced with the help of Germans. The material was distributed in Poland and Germany, and it spurred numerous conferences and symposia concerning the problems in relations between our nations. We plan to produce more films devoted to phenomenological thinkers. Projects about Eugene Fink, Martin Heidegger and Emmanuel Levinas are currently being prepared. The entire “Uczniowie Edmunda Husserla” project will be available on DVD discs in several languages. It will be provided free-of-charge to scientific institutions and schools across Europe. Since we are an institution which does not conduct business activity and focuses on popularizing science and culture, in order to complete this unique project we need funds to cover the cost of travels and visits of international scientists, as well as additional costs related to this undertaking. Thus, we would like to ask you to help us complete this project.
